PRODUCING FOR THE KENNEDYS
My first broadcast project with the Kennedy Center was A Very Special Arts Story. My experience with Jean Kennedy Smith, founder of VSA, was terrific. She was the youngest sister of former President John F. Kennedy, and a tireless campaigner during his run for the presidency. Jean was smart, funny, and wonderful.
Jean believed her family’s mission was to spread hope, inspiration, and care to as many people as possible. I personally know this to be true.
She served as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland under the Clinton administration. In 2011, President Barack Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work with VSA and people with disabilities.
A Very Special Arts Story tells the organization's story through video segments demonstrating performances and works of art created by individuals with mental and physical challenges. Jean Kennedy Smith, along with parents, children, teachers, and celebrities, weaves the program’s narrative through interviews and performances.
The host of the program, Cliff Robertson, provides background on each performer, adding drama and inspiration to each segment. I did two studio shoots with Cliff in Washington and recorded some additional voice-over in LA.
